विश्व कप क्रिकेट और मास्टर ब्लास्टर

सबको पता है कि भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में हो रहे इस विश्व कप को जीतने का ख़्वाब कितने दिनों से देखा जा रहा है. भारतीय टीम इस समय ज़बरदस्त फ़ॉर्म में है और बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन के दौर में.

मुझे याद है कि कैसे मीडिया में सचिन के संन्यास की कहानी लिख दी गई थी. लेकिन बुरे विश्व कप प्रदर्शन के कुछ ही दिनों बाद सारी आलोचनाओं पर चुप्पी साधते हुए ये मास्टर ब्लास्टर नेट्स पर पसीना बहाने पहुँच चुका था.

अब ये बताने की भी आवश्यकता नहीं कि सचिन ने 2007 के बाद एक दिवसीय क्रिकेट कितने इतिहास रचे हैं.

सचिन तेंदुलकर के नाम आज बल्लेबाज़ी का लगभग सारा रिकॉर्ड है. उन्होंने 444 वनडे अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैच खेल कर कुल 17629 रन बनाए हैं. वनडे में एकमात्र दोहरा शतक लगाने वाले वे अकेले बल्लेबाज़ हैं. 46 शतक और 93 अर्धशतक उनकी महान बल्लेबाज़ी का सबूत है.

लेकिन इस महान खिलाड़ी की विश्व कप जीतने की ख़्वाहिश अभी तक पूरी नहीं हो सकी है. हालांकि उनके रहते भारत फ़ाइनल में भी पहुँचा है और वे विश्व कप में भी सबसे ज़्यादा रन बनाने वाले खिलाड़ी भी हैं.तेंदुलकर के बल्ले पर होंगी सबकी नज़रें. भारतीय उनका 50 शतक विश्व कप में देखना चाहेंगे. ये सब उसी समय मुमकिन है जब तेंदुलकर का बल्ला 1996 और 2003 की तरह बोले.

एलियंस के अस्तित्व पर हॉकिंग की मुहर

इस ब्रह्मांड के दूसरे ग्रहों में प्राणी अवश्य ही हैं लेकिन लोगों को उनसे बचकर रहना चाहिए. ये चेतावनी है ब्रिटेन के जाने-माने वैज्ञानिक स्टीवन हॉकिंग की.

टेलीविज़न के डिस्कवरी चैनल पर एक सिरीज़ दिखाई जा रही है जिसमें स्टीवन हॉकिंग ने माना कि यह पूरी तरह से तार्किक है कि बौद्धिक प्राणी अन्य ग्रहों पर भी होंगे.

उन्होंने कहा कि संभव है कि वो संसाधनों की तलाश में पृथ्वी पर हमला करें और फिर आगे बढ़ जाएं.

उन्होने कहा, "अगर एलियन पृथ्वी पर आते हैं तो उसका वैसा ही परिणाम होगा जैसा कोलम्बस के अमरीका पहुंचने पर वहां के मूल निवासियों का हुआ था".

स्टीवन हॉकिंग मानते हैं कि दूसरे ग्रहों के प्राणियों से संपर्क करने की कोशिश करने से बेहतर ये होगा कि हम उससे बचें.

इसकी व्याख्या करते हुए उन्होने कहा, "इसके लिए हमें अपने आपको देखने की ज़रूरत है कि बौद्धिक जीव का विकास उस शक्ल में हो सकता है जिससे हम न मिलना चाहें".

अतीत में मानव ने अंतरिक्ष में ऐसे खोजी यान भेजे हैं जिनमें मानव के नक्काशीदार चित्र और पृथ्वी की स्थिति बताने वाले नक्शे रखे हुए थे.

स्टीवन हॉकिंग ने कहा कि इस ब्रह्मांड में अनगिनत आकाशगंगाएं हैं इसलिए यह सोचना कि उनमें कहीं न कहीं जीवन होगा बिल्कुल तार्किक है.

उन्होंने कहा, "सबसे बड़ी चुनौती यह पता करना है कि वो देखने में कैसे होंगे".

डिस्कवरी चैनल पर दिखाई जाने वाली इस सिरीज़ में कई तरह के जीवों की कल्पना की गई है जिनमें दो पैरों पर चलने वाले शाकाहारी जीव से लेकर शिकार करने वाले छिपकलीनुमा जीव शामिल हैं.

पहले कौन आया अंडा या मुर्गी

बढ़ती उम्र इंसान को कभी रास नहीं आई. शायद यही वजह है कि हार्वर्ड मेडिकल स्कूल के शोधकर्ताओं ने वृद्ध चूहों को जवान बनाने का प्रयोग शुरु किया.

वृद्ध चूहों के शिथिल अंगों में सुधार ने उनकी उम्र की रफ़्तार को उलट दिया गया और ये चूहे वृद्धावस्था से जवानी की ओर चल पड़े.

शोध कहता है कि ये प्रयोग इंसान पर सफल रहे तो वह दिन भी दूर नहीं जब उम्र नहीं ढलेगी और लोग सदा जवान रहेंगे.

सदियों से ये सवाल हमें उलझाता रहा है कि पहले कौन आया अंडा या मुर्गी, लेकिन इस साल ब्रिटेन के वैज्ञानिकों ने इस उलझन को भी सुलझा लिया.

वैज्ञानिकों ने पाया कि मुर्गी के अंडे ‘ओवोक्लेडिडिन-17’ नामक एक प्रोटीन से बनते हैं जो अंडे का खोल बनाने के लिए बेहद ज़रूरी है और मुर्गी के गर्भाशय में ही पाया जाता है.

यानी अंडा तभी बन सकता है जब मुर्गी का अस्तित्व हो!

What Would Dale Carnegie Do?

I always find it helpful to read Dale Carnegie’s timeless book, "How To Win Friends And Influence People" at least once a year. I think it is especially helpful this time of year as we celebrate the holidays with office parties and get togethers.

Here are Ten Major points of the book:

1.When you meet someone, make eye contact and smile. A great way to do this is to make a mental note of their eye color.
2.Wherever you are, act like you are the host. Initiate the conversation. Be the first to say hello.
3.Use simple memorization techniques to remember people’s names or write them down on a small card. As Dale Carnegie says, “The sweetest sound to a person is their name.”
4.Make others feel important by giving them your full attention. Help them feel like they are the only person in the room and that you are enjoying your conversation with them. Refrain from yawning or looking at your watch.
5.Show curiosity and interest in others. Ask them open-ended questions and listen to their answers. You will become more likeable, and really start to understand the person’s wants, needs, and desires.
6.Be enthusiastic about your life. People gravitate to optimistic, positive and cheerful people.
7.Be able to speak on a variety of subjects. Keep abreast of current events and read timely books and magazines. Be able to tell people what you do in a few short sentences. Speak concisely.
8.Invite people to join you for other activities such as lunch or an informal meeting.
9.Be sincere and compliment others about what they are wearing, doing, or saying.
10.Give people more than they expect. Don’t promise things you can’t deliver.

Anything about Carnegie is wonderful. I have read his book HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE, I just love reading that. The tips and tricks given by Carnegie are always simple and easy to use. You can definitely influence people or can make loads of friends, if you are moving on the way shown by him.
